Clean and well-kept streets can increase property values and investment in a community, lower crime rates and improve the reputation of a neighborhood. Keeping Salem clean and tidy is just one of the tasks done by our volunteers through the Experience Works program.
The Experience Works program allows low-income individuals over the age of 55 to participate in nonprofit activities as part of their job training. Ms. Cooper, who many residents are familiar with, was once an Experience Works volunteer until she was hired by Stand Up For Salem as our Administrative Specialist.
Alonzo and Lorenzo, our environmental team, are always in the community cleaning up the city’s streets, and Mr. McBride, who recently turned 90, is a familiar face in the parking garage on Hires Avenue. Happy 90th Birthday, Mr. McBride!
These gentleman are not government employees; they are part of the Experience Works program so treat them kindly!
Our newest volunteers are Debra and Sonny who will be assisting with community outreach in the city.
